Root cause, not symptoms
We find the compensations feeding your hip, a shifted pelvis, uneven foot loading, poor trunk control, and retrain them, rather than stretching or foam-rolling the pain away for an hour.

I’ve dealt with the exact same thing, two years of daily hip pain, an FAI diagnosis, and a surgery date I never wanted. I found the root cause instead of going under the knife, and now I help others do the same by retraining the movement patterns driving their hip pain.
Hip pain that never fully switches off, some days a dull ache, some days it stops you.
A folder full of diagnoses (FAI, “tight hips”, bursitis, labral issues) but no lasting fix.
Scans and imaging that show nothing, or don’t explain how you actually feel.
Money spent across physios, osteos, chiros, and mobility routines, relief that never sticks.
Being nudged toward surgery when nobody has addressed how you move.
Here’s what most approaches miss: your hip doesn’t hurt in isolation. It hurts because of how your pelvis, ribcage, feet, and breathing load it, the same way, thousands of times a day. Change those inputs, and the hip finally gets a reason to feel different.
Functional Patterns (FP) is a biomechanics-first method built on one principle: your structure reflects your repeated inputs. Instead of chasing the spot that hurts, we upgrade the inputs, how you stand, walk, breathe, hinge, rotate, and load, so your body organises around the hip differently.
We find the compensations feeding your hip, a shifted pelvis, uneven foot loading, poor trunk control, and retrain them, rather than stretching or foam-rolling the pain away for an hour.
Standing, walking, running, throwing. Restore these human movements and the lumbopelvic region, your hips, starts loading the way it’s built to: with control, not compensation.
You’ll get cueing at a level of detail conventional PT and mobility routines don’t reach, plus homework, so progress isn’t limited to session time.
For two years, I was in hip pain every single day. I couldn’t do a simple hip hinge without my body compensating in a dozen ways, and I was diagnosed with Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI). I did everything right, months with physiotherapists, podiatrists, and chiropractors, and lasting relief never came.
By late 2021, my physio was preparing me for hip surgery. I was strongly against it: surgery alone wouldn’t address the brain–muscle connection and the movement patterns that actually needed to change. It was a jarring contrast to who I’d been, an active triathlete with an Ironman finish who loved Olympic weightlifting.
Then I found Functional Patterns, and it changed how I understood movement entirely. By retraining my inputs and consistently loading the right tissues around the pelvis, I got out of pain and back to living. Today, I have a particular focus on people fighting the exact battle I did.
And here’s the proof on myself, my own running gait, before Functional Patterns and after.
“Osteos and physios didn’t really help my hip after a skiing accident that I really struggled to recover from 2 years ago. After 3 months of training Functional Patterns with Mick just once a week, my day-to-day movement is undeniably improving quickly. I can’t recommend Mick enough…”

Intake & history, where it hurts, what you’ve tried, what you want back, plus a Functional Patterns postural & gait screen to pinpoint the compensations driving your hip pain.
Detailed, hands-on movement instruction and corrective work targeted at your hips and lumbopelvic region, plus homework so you keep progressing between sessions.
We measure movement, not vibes. You’ll feel the difference in everyday tasks, and understand exactly why it’s changing.
